Kelowna South-Central Association of Neighbourhoods

KSAN supports blending well-designed new buildings with our valued historic structures and their surroundings, enhancing connections in our lively community while honoring our past and future.

Livability and maintaining the vibrant character of our cherished neighbourhoods is our unwavering commitment to the local Kelowna residents we serve.

KSAN was established in 1993 when a motivated group of concerned area residents recognized the pressing challenges posed by rapid development and growth pressures in Kelowna’s inner-city, particularly in light of the significant purchase of numerous homes for the expansion of Kelowna General Hospital. Since that pivotal moment, KSAN has proudly been a proactive and engaged participant in a variety of impactful initiatives aimed at fostering responsible growth while steadfastly preserving the unique character and high quality of life that our residents hold dear.

With our strong desire for diversity and inclusion, we must also work diligently to maintain unity among our residents. KSAN is a not-for-profit organization that consists of passionate and dedicated volunteers who reside within the same neighbourhood, united by a shared commitment to bringing neighbours together in order to foster a strong sense of belonging and connectedness among all residents. These dedicated individuals actively organize grassroots initiatives, identify serendipitous opportunities to enhance their beloved neighbourhood, and collaboratively enact thoughtful and innovative ideas for the betterment of the community as a whole.

The seamless integration of thoughtfully designed new developments alongside cherished old structures is a fundamental objective that members of KSAN continually strive to uphold, ensuring that the cohesive character and structure of the neighbourhood remains intact for future generations.

The Abbot Street and Marshall Street Heritage Conservation Areas are located within KSAN, and thus heritage is very important to KSAN. The heritage signs placed in front of our heritage homes were an initiative of KSAN. These signs are located throughout the KSAN area and describe the history of the Kelowna family that build the house – who they were, what they did, their contribution to the early days of Kelowna. The signs also provide information on the unique features of the heritage houses. KSAN also prepared three colorful walking brochures that features many of these houses so residents and tourists can stroll through our older areas and learn about these homes (see below). The brochures for the Abbott Heritage Conservation Area, the Marshall Street Heritage Conservation Area, and the Bernard Avenue Historic Area are located at the Kelowna Tourism Centre and in various kiosks in the city.
